Very few people still work when they are 88 years old, let alone be as famous and successful as ever, if not more. But this is the case of the artist and writer Yayoi Kusama. She was born on March 22, 1929 and has done truly amazing work in her life. Famous for her use of pyschedelic colors and patterns, especially dots, she is considered one of the most important Japanese artist and has been featured in countless museums. She is also responsible for creating infinite rooms which are rooms filled with mirrors and lights that are place in such a way that it looks like the room goes on forever.
Yayoi Kusmam is such an inspirational woman who pushed boundaries with her art, especially by using nudity. You should read about her anti-war performances in the 60’s. She is not afraid to stand up for what she believes in bold and unexpected ways.
To celebrate this amazing woman, the companies PORTER, X-LARGE, X-girl, and G-SHOCK have come out with a collection of items based on her work. Get ready for a lot of brightly colored dots!
X-LARGE and X-girl brought out the clothing in the collaboration. This includes t-shirts, jackets, and hats for both male and female. Some of the clothing feature the famous dot pattern in pink or yellow while the rest have other designs. Porter, of course, added bags to the collection. They have a backpack, their 2 way helmet bag, and a wallet. And lastly G-SHOCK has their watch. The bags and watch come in the same pink or yellow dot design seen in the clothing.
This is a colorful and fun collaboration which perfectly reflects Yayoi Kusama’s work. It is so nice to see four big companies, such as these, work together to create a collection to celebrate her and all that she has worked for.
